Emond Harnden Announces the Retirement of Co-Founder Jacques Emond

Emond Harnden announces the retirement of Jacques “Jake” Emond, a founding partner whose remarkable career and profound dedication to our firm and the Ottawa community have made a lasting impact.

Jake co-founded Emond Harnden in August 1987 with Lynn Harnden. What began as a small team of two founding partners and a couple of associates has grown into a thriving firm with over 55 lawyers and 35 support staff, a testament to Jake and Lynn’s vision and commitment to excellence.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa in 1971, Jake has dedicated over five decades to practicing labour and employment law, representing both public and private sector employers. His depth of expertise spans constitutional and administrative law, negotiations and mediation of collective agreements, and litigation concerning workplace issues, including wrongful dismissal. Throughout his career, Jake has been a trusted advisor and a valued mentor to countless colleagues and clients.

Reflecting on Jake’s retirement, co-founder Lynn Harnden shared:

Jake’s vision, integrity, and dedication to both our firm and the community have set a standard that will guide us for years to come. What began as two colleagues gambling on a new business venture has grown into a law firm that has surpassed even our most optimistic dreams.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jake has been a passionate supporter of the Ottawa community. He has forged lasting relationships with local organizations, uplifted community initiatives, and made it a priority to be present at events that bring people together. His warmth, approachability, and unwavering commitment to service have earned him admiration both inside and outside the firm.

As Jake steps away from the practice, we celebrate not only a career marked by exceptional legal accomplishments but also a legacy rooted in kindness, leadership, and community.

From all of us at Emond Harnden, thank you, Jake, for your unparalleled contributions. Your presence will be deeply missed, but your legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward together.

Join us in wishing Jake all the best in this new chapter filled with well-deserved relaxation, family, and the pursuits that bring him joy.
