Jennifer Birrell is a partner with Emond Harnden and has over twenty years experience in providing counsel to employers, including private and public sector organizations, on a broad range of employment and labour law issues such as contracts, downsizing, policy development, human rights, workplace investigations, employment standards, discipline matters,  labour arbitration and collective agreement administration. Jennifer is a frequent speaker on issues related to labour and employment.

Jennifer enjoys an active education law practice where she acts on behalf of school boards in labour and employment law matters as well as education matters.

 

Born and raised in Ottawa, Jennifer graduated from the University of Ottawa Magna Cum Laude.

Jennifer was called to the Bar in 1995.

Jennifer is a past President of the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA), a leading Ontario association for the professional legal community which serves it members though advocacy, professional development and other programs, and operates the law library in the Ottawa courthouse. She previously served on the CCLA Board for almost a decade, with the last 4 years as a member of the Executive Committee.

Jennifer remains a committed member to the CCLA and is also a member of the Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Association for the Practical Study of Law in Education and the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers.

She maintains strong links to the community and is well known for her work as former Chair of the Canadian Toy Testing Council.
