  • Class action settlement, data breach – McLean v. Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, 2021 BCSC 1456

    Plaintiff sued defendant for mismanaging personal information of the Class Members between 2014 to 2018, resulting in a data incident discovered in 2018 – defendant agreed to pay a settlement amount of $1,550,000 to resolve the litigation, without admission of liability, for approximately 230,000 Class Members – parties sought court approval for the settlement – five Class Members objected to the settlement – Court concluded the settlement fell within the “zone of reasonableness”, and granted the approval order
