Job Summary
Our labour and employment lawyers are responsible for providing legal advice and representing the
firm’s clients, while also participating in various business and client development initiatives for
the firm.
Specifically, an Emond Harnden Associate will:
• Advises clients on strategic workplace issues, including employment standards, human
rights, employment contracts, occupational health and safety, workplace policies and
procedures, and human resources strategies;
• Advises school boards on matters of education law and language rights, school safety,
special education, equity and inclusion, privacy, student discipline, including suspension or
expulsion hearings;
• Advises school boards and represents them on constitutional law matters, particularly
under section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
• Represents clients in collective bargaining, mediation, administrative hearings, grievance
arbitration, and civil litigation;
• Represents clients before administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal and
the Ontario Labour Relations Board;
• Drafts legal opinions, memoranda, pleadings, administrative policies and procedures, and
other legal documents; and
• Conducts all necessary documentary and jurisprudential research and analysis.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• LL.B or J.D. with excellent grades;
• Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.

Knowledge and skills the successful candidate would possess:
• Bilingualism (written, oral, comprehension) and the ability to practice law in French are
required;
• Understanding that the true practice of law has a large business development element;
• Willingness or desire to learn about the business of law and the workings of a legal
practice;
• Self-confident, motivated, and able to build a network and clientele;
• Self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a group;
• Meticulous;
• Ability to meet deadlines.
